Cultural Field Trip to Culver City

On May 7th, I organized my latest cultural field trip to Culver City called “Women in Art,” with a focus on female-run art ventures. We started the field trip at uber talented floral designer Holly Vesecky’s fascinating studio, followed by a walkthrough with Mary Leigh Cherry of Cherry + Martin‘s inaugural group exhibition in their new space.
Next was a rountable discussion with Lauri Firstenburg at LA><ART, where artist Chris Oliveira was installing his current show,”A Garden for Losing One’s Head,” and took a moment to talk about his work. Our last stop was a walkthrough of Timothy Hull’s show, “Justified and Ancient: What Time is Love?” with Heather Taylor, co-owner of Taylor de Cordoba. We concluded the cultural field trip with a delicious bento box lunch and art-filled conversation at nearby Asian cafe, Beacon.
“Women in Art” was the third in a series of cultural field trips with the goal of engaging participants in the rich cultural landscape of Los Angeles while simultaneously raising money and awareness for local arts nonprofits. This particular event benefited arts nonprofit Piece by Piece. Other field trips have included visits to the Frederick R. Weisman Museum in Bel Air and L.A. Louver Gallery in Venice.
