Why:  Pae White is an artist known for her work with light as air materials such as cat whiskers, spider webs, and reflections from Plexiglas sheets.  Her 5^th solo exhibition at 1301 PE, “Smoke Knows,” is a natural continuation of her previous work, featuring elegant freeze-framed “smoke tapestries” that seamlessly combine digital technology with the Old-World Belgian tradition of tapestry weaving.  Other delights include a deconstructed fireplace, hundreds of fake leaves, and carvings of paper that masquerade as “smoke drawings” with the help of a laser.  White’s elegant yet challenging work make her one of the most important international female artists working today.
