Art LA & LA Art Show This Week With New Locations

By Emily Waldorf

In conjunction with L.A. Art Month, there is not just one, but two, exciting art fairs to put on your cultural calendar this week.

Art LA 2009, January 23-25

Art LA is being held at Barkar Hangar (last year it was held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium).  Art LA is an annual contemporary fine-art fair with over 60 exhibitors showing a diverse range of mediums including painting, photography, sculpture, video, and installation.  Exhibitors include a wonderful mix of blue-chip and emerging galleries, half of them local and the other half from the wider U.S. and around the globe.  Art LA offers a diverse array of cutting-edge programming throughout the duration of the fair, including special exhibitions, performances, conversations, and an exciting film series.

A sampling of galleries includes Blum and Poe, ACE Gallery, LA><ART, Chung King Projects, Marc Selwyn Fine Art, Cherry and Martin, and Honor Fraser Gallery.

Los Angeles Art Show, January 22-25

The 14th annual LA Art Show is being held this year at the Los Angeles Convention Center (it has been held in past years at Barker Hangar). With more than 135 exhibitors ranging from Old Masters to Contemporary, the LA Art Show is larger than Art LA and has a more traditional program of lectures, films, music, and events, including the educational “Art Collectors Boot Camp” on Sunday, led by New York Times and Art + Auction contributor Jori Finkel.

Participating galleries include Louis Stern Fine Art, Greenfield Sacks Gallery, Jack Rutberg Fine Arts, Sundaram Tagore, Petter Fetterman Gallery, and Spanierman Modern.
